FORT MYERS BEACH– Friends of Lovers Key (FOLKS) has joined with the Americana Community Music Association (ACMA), to offer a series of monthly Free Acoustic concerts of all original music this upcoming season.
Entering our 5th season, the concerts will take place in the large gazebo located right on the beach. Seating on the gazebo is available for the first 80 people. Additional seating is also available on the sand.
Each month, prior to the start of the concert, FOLKS will be hosting Food Truck Vendors serving food truck specialties and soda, wine and beer. A portion of the proceeds from the food and beverage sales will go towards the future Welcome and Discovery Center at Lovers Key State Park. We will also have be offering tickets by donation for Games of Chance for fabulous prizes from local businesses.
The February 6 concert will include the famous Charlie McCoy
Charlie is one of the most in-demand session players in Nashville. His session credits are literally a who’s who of country music. For a fifteen year stretch, he did more than 400 sessions a year. A grand total would number more than 12,000 In the last twenty years, he has been touring more with many appearances in Europe and Japan.
In addition to country sessions, Charlie was a mainstay on Elvis Presley recordings both in Nashville and Los Angeles. When Bob Dylan recorded “Highway 61”, “Blond On Blond”, “John Wesley Harding”, and “Nashville Skyline”, Charlie was there, playing on these land-mark recordings. He was also heard on Simon and Garfunkle’s “The Boxer” in addition to many hits from genres other than country music.
There are numerous super-session musicians in Nashville, but very few with the longevity of Charlie McCoy.
addition to being a fixture in Nashville studios for 48 years, he also has his
own recording career going full tilt. (He has recorded 35 solo albums.) He
served as the music director for eightteen years for the syndicated television
series, “Hee Haw”. Charlie was given the “Musician” award from the Reunion Of
Professional Entertainers” in 1994, elected to the German-American Country
Music Hall Of Fame in 1998, The Hall Of Fame of the North American Country
Music Association International in 2000, the International Musicians’ Hall Of
Fame and the Old Time Country Music Hall of fame in 2007, and the West Virginia
Music Hall Of fame in 2008.
On Feb. 4, 2009, it was announced that Charlie would be inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame.
Playing with Charlie will be Roy Schneider & Kim Mayfield
Troubadour and formerly syndicated cartoonist Roy Schneider has
developed a devoted fan base for his particular flavor of Americana music since
2008, through international radio airplay and consistent touring with
life-and-stage partner Kim Mayfield. Playfully dubbed as “Blue-Twangled
Folk ‘n’ Roll”, Schneider & Mayfield have brought their musical blend of
the gritty, fun, soulful and sweet to delighted audiences across the USA and
abroad, exploring and expanding their musical horizons with every performance.
This multitalented duo clocks up thousands of miles annually from their home base in Fort Myers, Florida, toting an ever-evolving array of instruments wherever they are needed. With Schneider on guitar (or dobro, mandolin or banjo), harmonica, kick drum and vocals, Mayfield on mandolin (or guitar, ukulele or percussion) and vocals, their sound will delight and entertain you.
This months concert will feature 3 food trucks- El Local, Haney’s Catering, and Royal Scoop. The food trucks will start serving 1 hour prior to the concert start time.
FOLKS (Friends of Lovers Key, Inc.) is a 501c(3) non-profit Citizen Support Organization established to protect, preserve and support Lovers Key State Park.
Come hear great original music and the stories behind the songs in an intimate Songwriters Showcase. The show will finish with a fabulous Lovers Key Sunset.
