Meet The Speakers

Nicole Johnson

Conservancy of Southwest Florida

Nicole Johnson is responsible for directing and managing the organization’s Environmental Policy Department, including growth management planning and natural resources policy. Nicole represents the Conservancy at the local, regional, state, and national levels and to elected officials on environmental policy issues to promote and create community awareness, understanding and action relating to the Conservancy’s public policy positions. For over 20 years, Nicole has been an active advocate for local land-use policies that protect natural resources while ensuring these regulations are appropriately applied as new developments are proposed. She has served on numerous boards, including the Estuary Conservation Association, Keep Collier Beautiful, Friends of the Florida Panther Refuge, and the League of Women Voters of Collier County, where she also chaired their Natural Resources Committee. She currently serves as Conservation Chair for the Big Cypress Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Nicole has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carroll University in Waukesha, WI in Physical Geography and Psychology and a Masters of Arts degree in Environmental Studies, with a specialized focus on land use planning, from the University of Illinois at Springfield. She is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Collier and a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Institute.

Craig Klingensmith

Craig Klingensmith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture with a minor in Urban Planning. Craig has been in the high-rise development and construction industry for over 20 years. He worked for WCI Communities as a project manager through division president in the Tower Division for 10 years. From there, he went to run the Northeast Urban Division for Lennar Corporation as their Division President for 9 years. He was then hired by Coastal Construction of Miami to manage their Tampa & Central Florida operations that included condominium, rental apartment, Class A office and hospitality projects. His career has been spent managing all aspects of high-rise developments and specifically and mostly condominium development. This entails working from land acquisition to assembling the design and construction teams to assembling the legal, sales, marketing, PR, and property management teams. Since starting his career in this field, he has worked on over $2.5 billion in projects located in Naples, Marco Island, Tampa, Orlando, Florida and in the Northeast regions of New York, New Jersey, Boston, and Connecticut.
