Healthy Tools for a Better Workforce

Marathon

The past several months have been especially challenging for many businesses.  Now, more than ever, a healthy business depends on healthy employees. Businesses that implement well-being initiatives experience lower healthcare costs, increased productivity, decreased absenteeism and higher employee morale.  Many find healthy, happy employees can help them retain and attract a top talent workforce.

Blue Zones Project of Southwest Florida

We understand your employees are your most valuable asset to help your business survive and thrive, Blue Zones Project – Southwest Florida offers free well-being consulting services. Contact us and we’ll help you choose from a variety of best practices proven to help businesses thrive. Blue Zones Project is currently working with 131 worksites throughout Southwest Florida that have achieved measurable results since implementing best practices for well-being.

Examples include:

  • About a quarter of the City of Naples employees were motivated by Blue Zones Inspired walking challenge, resulting in 69,900,000 collective steps and 899 pounds lost
  • Collier County Government experienced a 40% decrease in the number of employees with insulin resistance after two years
  • The NCH Healthcare System, self-insured for health, had a 54% decrease in healthcare expenditures over 6 years, resulting in a $27 million savings
  • Over 4200 volunteer hours completed since 2015
  • 90% of Moorings Park employees were rated as Low Risk in their 2019 Health Designs Wellness Survey
  • PBS Contractors’ 2018-2019 Workman’s Compensation retainer was refunded after they celebrated an entire year without a single claim or accident

Social Support and Engagement Opportunities

Social engagement is difficult during a pandemic but maintaining healthy work relationships is paramount during stressful times. The most successful work teams have established a strong support network and psychological safety that is built in and out of the office.  Build in opportunities for staff to engage in fun activities together, yet remain physically distanced. Keeping your work team socially connected will keep them mentally engaged at work.

Leverage Your Benefits Package

Review your benefits package and remind employees of free programs that are available to them that may help them during these uncertain times. Many policies include helpful services like an Employee Assistance Program offering free counseling, financial well-being services or estate planning, Telehealth, and chronic conditions management. If your company does not offer benefits, let us help connect you to appropriate resources within Collier and Lee counties.

Double-check Workstations

If an employee’s workstation is not set up to be ergonomically correct, they may be at risk of injury resulting from unhealthy posture. We can help avoid this risk.

Deploy the Real Age Test

All Blue Zones Project Approved Worksites are offered a free health assessment tool called the Real Age Test that provides confidential results to employees and anonymous aggregate data to the employer. Based on the information provided, the Real Age Test will reveal the body’s physical age (versus chronological age) based on factors that include healthy habits, chronic conditions, and blood pressure as well as offer tips to improve health.

After at least 25 employees have taken the Real Age Test, the worksite will receive an aggregate report highlighting the overall health of their workforce including health risks that they can address through healthy programs, policy or environmental changes.  Note, for small businesses, although an aggregate report cannot be created for employers with less than 25 employees, you can still use the assessment tool in a meaningful way with your team. Contact us to gain access to this free assessment tool.

Host Wellness Challenges

Individuals are 20 percent more likely to stick to a goal when it is shared by a group. Therefore, collectively committing to a team wellness challenge generally produces better individual results. Become a Blue Zones Project Approved worksite and participate in our free wellness challenges or create your own for better employee health and engagement. Need some ideas?
